Brightleaf Record Cabinets

This pair of record cabinets was designed to hold audio equipment and a record and cd collection. But it was a passing statement Evan made about the beauty of Durham’s historic tobacco warehouses, specifically the brickwork, that plotted the course for the overall design. Many of the details reflect various features of these beautiful buildings: the orange-red of the mahogany, the molding details, even the brickwork pattern of the parquetry in the door panels and the abstract texture of the maple burl suggest the overall effect of the expansive brick walls of these structures.

Fuctionally, the record cubbies have a moveable divider that can be used to subdivide the space or just keep the albums from falling over when some are removed. The set of three drawers hold two rows of CD’s. And there are removable panels behind the audio equipment shelf that can be left off for air flow or removed entirely for access to the cable inputs.

Mahogany, Maple Burl, Poplar, Basswood.
